If your car engine management light comes on, it will typically be illuminated in yellow. Whilst any dashboard warning light is cause for concern, those that illuminate in yellow or orange generally do so to inform the driver that a non-critical fault has emerged.

Essentially this means that there’s no immediate risk that vehicle safety is compromised but you should book your car or van in for a diagnostic check to avoid any further issues.

However, if the engine management light illuminates in red, or flashes in red then this informs you of a more urgent problem. If driving, it would be advisable to pull over as soon as safe to do so, turn off the engine and arrange for the vehicle to be transported to us to diagnose and repair the fault.
